Index da Physiologia, by Nogueira da Silva
Nogueira da Silva is probably the man behind the pseudonym Flora, the first Portugese comic artist. Flora's comic, 'Aventuras sentimentais e dramáticas do senhor Simplício Baptista', was published in Revista Popular in 1850. And even if Nogueiro da Silva is not Flora, he still remains one of the pioneers of the Portugese comic. In 1856, he made 'Index da Physiologia' in Asmodeu. The year later he created 'As quatro Luas do Matrimónio' in Jornal para Rir.

August Francisco Nogueira Da Silva is a self-taught artist who looked at art as an expression of social conscience, which he expressed in writing and drawing.
